'If we receive a report of a temperature that falls outside the standard range, we warn the driver. He can then take action immediately. Immediate action is also not a problem if a container is on a ship or at a terminal. This will become the standard in the transport sector."

European refrigerated transport

The T Comm Tracking & Tracing vehicle tracking system makes it possible for international transporters and buyers to closely monitor complete containers during their journey and to supervise them in various manners. The containers are fitted with sensors that measure variables including temperature, pressure and moisture every 15 minutes. This data is then made available to the transporter and the end customer who is waiting for the goods. A buyer in Turkey can see whether a refrigerated cargo has met all of the requirements during the journey.'

The Future. That is the opinion of the H.Z. Transport Group in Maasdijk, which dispatches refrigerated transports throughout Europe. Edwin Schouten, logistics manager of the H.Z. Transport Group: ‘Years ago, we observed that European transport was requiring more time simply because it is busier on the roads than on the railways. It is therefore increasingly important to monitor the location of containers and whether the transportation is meeting the required conditions. Buyers also want to know this.'

The H.Z. Transport Group constantly monitors 60 containers. Edwin Schouten: 'If we receive a report of a temperature that falls outside the standard range, we warn the driver. He can then take action immediately. Immediate action is also not a problem if a container is on a ship or at a terminal.' The H.Z. Transport Group has no doubts. 'This will become the standard in the transport sector', says Edwin Schouten.
